Writers usually end up with lots of files on their pc's and laptops. There are stored files for future reference; writing in progress and things 'to be writen'. Not to mention quotations, rejected writing that needs rewriting, things waiting to be edited, etc. The list is endless.
Most Internet Service Providers provide free web space on their server for subscribers to build a website. If this is not something you are interested in doing, this could be a very useful storage area.
Most writers have lots of 'cuttings', 'clips', 'photographs', etc stored on their own computers for future use. This can take up a lot of memory. Why not use the free web space to store these files and backups to your more important data. I store my latest rewrites of my books there. If you are security conscious you can zip everything up and password protect your files.
You can even configure you computer to open up a window so you can drag and drop files to your storage area. (Unfortunately, only for Vista).
Go to START, right click Network and select Map Network Drive. Click 'Connect To A Web Site' and then click 'next'. Select 'choose a custom network location' and click on 'next'. Enter the FTP adress (available from you ISP site. It will look something like this: http://ftp.mysite.com/). Clear the 'log on anonymously' box and put in your username. Click 'next', enter a name for the icon that appears. Click 'finish' and open 'Start'. There will be a new icon there. Double click and you will be asked for a password (same one as your ISP gives you for setting up your webpage). Enter it. Then an Explorer type window opens. This is your web space.
Now you have free web storage space that is easily accessible. It will save you lots of memory space on your laptop, or pc and provides a good area to save all you writing without cluttering up your machine. It tales a while to get the hang of using this but it is very simple.

Tips For Website Copywriting
Tips For Website Copywriting
By Lyndon Ogden
You should always be aware of the spelling, grammar and formatting of any copy that you produce for your website. Believe it or not, many sales efforts have failed just because of a simple spelling or grammatical error in the copywriting. Strange as it may sound, I and very many people form an instant opinion of a website from the style of the writing.
Always use a spell checker to ensure that everything is correct even if you are certain that it is.
Recently I was helping a friend to promote his website selling office supplies. I insisted that I was correct with my spelling of 'office stationary' only to find that the correct spelling was 'office stationery'.
On visiting Google Keywords Tool I discovered that over 80% of people make the same mistake as I did!
Try to minimize using capital letters and exclamations marks in your work. A little goes a long way.
Another important thing to understand is that writing for a website is different from writing for a brochure. If your website reads like a brochure then you may want to reconsider the text and make it more web user friendly.
Graphics and animated gifs can slow a website down and won't show up on every visitor's web browser. You can make a website just as attractive by using some of the following -
1. Get used to breaking up large chunks of information with bulleting, numbering, emboldened text and colored text in order to make important information stand out.
2. Break up long paragraphs into shorter, more easily digestible pieces of information. This will help to make your content stand out more. It will also help to highlight important information for the reader.
3. At the end of each paragraph, remember to press the return key twice and do the same after each section title.
Obviously, short copy is preferable to long copy wherever possible. However, if you do need to write long copy, then try to use some of the following formatting rules.
1. Keep the column width reasonably narrow. The human eye finds it much easier to track along a shorter width.
2. Use subheadings, as this helps those who prefer to scan a page before they commit to reading the whole thing. Subheadings should lead visitors through the key points you are trying to make.
3. Try indenting the key elements in your copy. This will add some emphasis where it's needed. The longer the copy on a page, the more important it is to use sub headers and indents.
As you can see, formatting is a key essential when writing for your website.
